LaLiga Pass launches in Indonesia and Thailand

  • Streaming service to include LaLiga TV linear channel
  • Rollout in Indonesia and Thailand is the first since LaLiga Pass was announced last year

LaLiga has announced the launch of its over-the-top (OTT) Spanish soccer streaming platform, LaLiga Pass, in Indonesia and Thailand.

Users in Indonesia and Thailand will become the first to access the newly launched subscription platform – developed by the LaLiga Tech subsidiary – when it goes live later this month.

The OTT service will provide live coverage of every fixture from LaLiga and LaLiga 2, with its content offering also including documentaries, roundups and interviews. LaLiga Pass will also feature the league’s dedicated 24/7 LaLiga TV linear channel.

Matchday coverage will be offered with local language commentary for three fixtures per round. All other content will be available in Bahasa and Thai, with English and Spanish options also available.

The service will be accessible on iOS and Android devices, as well as on select smart TV platforms. LaLiga says it is keen to expand accessibility beyond what has been announced at launch.

“One of the keys of the entertainment sector is to be able to offer a high degree of personalisation, to speak to each fan in their own language and to provide them with quality content adapted to their tastes and needs,” said Alfredo Bermejo, LaLiga’s digital strategy director.

“We believe that LaLiga Pass, and all the technology behind it, is a big step in this direction and will be a great option for those who want to enjoy LaLiga and everything that surrounds it.”

The launch of LaLiga Pass was announced at last year’s Sportel Monaco event, with LaLiga president Javier Tebas explaining that the platform would be rolled out in markets where it would be strategically advantageous for the league and its broadcast partners.

“It’s very dependent on the location, because the product in each location is very different,” said Tebas. “It depends on what the broadcaster requires and what we think we can bring to the table.”

Domestically, there also innovations in coverage of LaLiga. Mediapro-owned broadcaster Gol has announced plans to broadcast its first match in the 9:16 vertical format on social video platform TikTok, when Real Sociedad face Real Betis on 15th April.
